Academics
The Department of Engineering and Technology's highest priority is to maintain an academic environment that supports student achievement and involvement in the creation and application of knowledge.
Undergraduate Programs
The undergraduate curriculum is structured to ensure that students not only master the technical aspects of engineering and technology, but also emerge well-rounded and able to meet the demands of leadership in the new global economy. In addition to rigorous coursework, students have the opportunity to study social sciences, humanities, mathematics, and the natural sciences. CMU's study-abroad programs also offer a valuable international perspective. The department works hard to match students with internships during their undergraduate years of study, and with jobs at graduation.
Graduate Programs
Graduate students in the Department of Engineering and Technology at CMU are on the cutting-edge of science. They have access to researchers in other fields within the university and those in the surrounding community, giving them the opportunity to combine expertise and create exciting innovations. This collaborative approach gives students a distinct advantage in the integrated-technology world of the 21st century.

Four senior mechanical engineering students (from left) Josh Loewen, Kurtis Wells, Eric Robinson, and Mike Seabright, entered the American Society for Mechanical Engineering Student Design Competition regional contest in Ann Arbor. The task was to build a human-powered water distiller for use after natural disasters that compromise water purity. They finished fourth out of 19 teams.
